Astronomer Interim CEO Pete DeJoy has opened up about the effects of the “spotlight” on the company following the recent Andy Byron kiss cam scandal. Byron, who was seen cuddling with the company’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert in Boston, resigned amid growing controversy.
‘Astronomer is Now a Household Name’
In an online statement, DeJoy expressed his pride in being part of Astronomer, stating, “I’ve proudly poured my entire professional life into helping build this company.” He highlighted the incredible growth experienced over the past few years, noting, “What was once a mission to help companies with Apache Airflow has turned into so much more.”
DeJoy mentioned how Astronomer sits at the center of its customers’ data and AI strategies, powering important processes such as in-game analytics for sports teams and training AI for self-driving cars.
Media Attention and Team Resilience
“The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies—let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world—ever encounter,” DeJoy explained. He characterized the attention as “unusual and surreal” for the team and acknowledged that while he wouldn’t have wished for this situation, it has made Astronomer “now a household name.”
DeJoy reassured stakeholders that the team has never shied away from challenges, emerging stronger each time. “We’re here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems and care deeply about doing things the right way,” he said.
Commitment to Customers and Community
Stepping into his role with a “wholehearted commitment,” DeJoy emphasized his intention to serve customers and support the Astronomer team. He noted, “Astronomer’s foundation remains strong, built around the thriving Apache Airflow community. Our opportunity to build a DataOps platform for the age of AI remains massive. And our story is very much still being written.”
In conclusion, DeJoy expressed gratitude, stating, “To our team: thank you for your resilience and commitment to building something great. And to our community and customers: thank you for your trust. We won’t let you down.”
