A terrifying incident unfolded on a train traveling to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on Friday evening, after multiple passengers were stabbed. The attack led to a major police response and caused widespread panic among commuters.
According to British Transport Police (BTP), two suspects have been arrested, and several injured passengers have been taken to hospital. Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack.

What Happened on the Train?
Police received emergency calls around 7:39 PM reporting a violent stabbing onboard a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service heading toward Huntingdon. The train was stopped immediately, and armed officers boarded to secure the scene.
“We are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed. Officers are in attendance alongside @CambsCops and two people have been arrested. Further updates will be shared here,” the British Transport Police said in a statement.

A video shared on social media after the incident showed police vehicles with flashing lights and passengers in distress near the station. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as authorities worked to contain the situation and assist victims.
Cambridgeshire Police told The Sun, “Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital. The incident remains ongoing and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre.”
The area around Huntingdon station was quickly cordoned off, and emergency services remained on-site for several hours.
Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday said that the stabbing on a Huntingdon-bound train on Saturday was “deeply concerning”.
“The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning,” he said in a post on X. He also wrote that his thoughts are with those affected by the incident, thanking the emergency services for their response. “Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police,” he added.

Travel Disruptions and Train Closures
Following the attack, LNER announced widespread travel disruptions as lines through Huntingdon were temporarily blocked. Passengers were urged to avoid travel and check for updates before starting their journeys.
LNER posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’. Please defer your travel where you can. Your existing ticket will be valid to use up to and including Monday, November 3. Please make a new seat reservation for your newly intended journey.”
Thameslink also confirmed that Huntingdon Station was closed, with no trains stopping in either direction “until further notice.”
Police Investigation Continues
The British Transport Police said all lines between Stevenage and Peterborough were closed during the emergency response.
“Trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
As of now, both arrested suspects remain in custody, and authorities have not released further details about the victims or the possible motive behind the attack.
The incident has left the community in shock, with residents of Huntingdon expressing concern over the rare outbreak of such violence in the region.
