The US Weather outlook for the coming days shows a sharp divide across the country. Northern regions are set to face heavy snow, strong winds, and blizzard-like conditions, while the West Coast prepares for heavy rain and gusty winds fueled by multiple atmospheric river systems.
Meanwhile, the South is expected to remain mostly mild and dry, according to The Watchers report.
Great Lakes & Upper Midwest: Heavy Snow and Blizzard Conditions Expected
A strengthening low-pressure system will move from the northern Plains into the Great Lakes, setting off intense lake-effect snow across:
- Northern Minnesota
- Northern Wisconsin
- Michigan’s Upper Peninsula
Snowfall will range between 10–35 cm (4–14 inches), with some areas near Lake Superior potentially reaching up to 90 cm (3 feet).
Strong winds, with gusts of 40–60 mph, may create near-whiteout conditions and dangerous travel.
Major highways that may face closures on November 26 include:
- US-2
- US-41
- US-53
- Parts of Interstate 35
Pacific Northwest & West Coast: Heavy Rain from Atmospheric Rivers
Between November 26 and 28, two atmospheric river systems will hit the Pacific Northwest, bringing widespread rainfall to:
- Coastal Washington
- Oregon
- Olympic Mountains
- Cascade Range
Rainfall totals may reach 50–100 mm (2–4 inches).
Higher elevations could see a rain-snow mix, while lower areas remain mostly wet due to rising freezing levels above 1,500 m (5,000 ft).
Forecasters warn of:
- Localized flooding
- Mudslides in saturated hillside regions
Northern Plains & Rocky Mountains: Snow and Early Winter Cold
States including North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana will experience snow beginning November 25, with intensifying conditions by November 26.
Mountain regions across Montana and Wyoming are likely to receive early-season snowfall, and travel across higher passes may become hazardous.
East Coast: Calm for Now, Wintry Mix by November 27
The East Coast will remain mostly mild through November 26.
By November 27, colder air may move into interior areas, bringing:
- Rain and wet snow to parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New England
- Wind and rain along coastal zones, with minimal snowfall expected
South & Gulf Coast: Mild, Dry, and Mostly Clear
Southern states such as:
- Texas
- Louisiana
- Georgia
- Florida
will remain mild, dry, and mostly clear through November 26–27. These regions aren’t expected to experience significant snow or storm activity. However, extended dry conditions may increase wildfire risk in some areas.
