Trump at Commanders Game: Was He Really Booed?

Trump Becomes First President at NFL Game Since 1978.

President Donald Trump made headlines on Sunday after attending the Washington Commanders’ home game against the Detroit Lions at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. His appearance was part of the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative, which honors U.S. military veterans and active-duty members.

Trump Joins Salute to Service Event

Before the game, Trump spent his morning golfing in Florida before flying to Washington for the event. He was expected to sit with Commanders principal owner Josh Harris, who has been in talks with D.C. officials and the White House about plans for a new stadium at the historic RFK Stadium site in Washington, D.C.

Speaking to reporters before takeoff, Trump praised the patriotic pregame ceremony: “I just want to say, was that the greatest flyover ever? Nobody’s ever done a flyover like that,” he said.

Commanders Organization Welcomes Trump

The Commanders’ club president, Mark Clouse, released a statement earlier in the week, saying: “We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country. The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

Trump’s attendance marked a historic moment — he became the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NFL regular-season game since Jimmy Carter in 1978.

Was Trump Booed at the Stadium? Reports Differ

While Trump’s visit was largely symbolic, it drew mixed reactions from the crowd. According to The Associated Press, boos were heard when a video of Trump appeared on the big screen. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that the former president was “booed heavily” upon arrival at the stadium.

However, social media videos also showed sections of the audience cheering and chanting Trump’s name, reflecting the polarized response that often follows his public appearances.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Adds Humor to the Night

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown lightened the atmosphere when he and his teammates celebrated a touchdown by mimicking Trump’s signature dance moves. The playful moment drew laughter and applause from fans, offering a break from the tension.

Despite the controversy surrounding Trump’s appearance, the Commanders vs. Lions matchup remained lively, and the NFL’s tribute to service members continued throughout the evening.
