One person has died and another remains critically injured after a small aircraft crashed near Rio Linda Boulevard and Claire Avenue in Sacramento on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred on the east side of Marysville Boulevard in North Sacramento, close to an elementary school, prompting a rapid emergency response and temporary road closures.
Small Aircraft Goes Down in North Sacramento
An alert posted on X described the scene as a small aircraft down near Rio Linda Boulevard and Claire Avenue, with emergency crews quickly extricating two patients from the wreckage.

“SACRAMENTO, CA | AIRCRAFT CRASH | RIO LINDA BOULEVARD & CLAIRE AVENUE | SMALL AIRCRAFT DOWN ON THE EAST OF MARYSVILLE BLVD,” the alert stated, noting fuel leakage and light smoke coming from the plane.
Firefighters Rescue Victims From Wreckage
The Sacramento Fire Department said it received the emergency call at approximately 12:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the aircraft down in a field, with both occupants trapped inside.
Fire crews extricated both men and provided medical care at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Officials initially said both victims were in critical condition.
One Victim Later Dies From Injuries
Authorities later confirmed that one of the injured individuals died from injuries sustained in the crash. The condition of the second victim remains critical.
Officials have not released the identities of those involved.
Fuel Leak Contained, Area Secured
Firefighters reported fuel leaking from the aircraft and visible smoke at the scene. Crews secured the area to prevent a fire and protect nearby homes, motorists, and school children.
Police temporarily closed sections of Rio Linda Boulevard and surrounding streets while emergency crews worked to stabilize the scene.
Investigation Underway
The aircraft involved appears to be a small, single-engine plane. Authorities said the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
Investigators will examine the aircraft and crash site as part of an ongoing investigation. Officials urged the public to avoid the area until cleanup and investigative work are complete.
