Police in Plantation, Florida, have begun an active investigation following reports of a possible shooting on Monday afternoon. Officers were dispatched to the area of Northwest 70th Avenue and 16th Street after receiving emergency calls about the incident.

Plantation Middle School Placed on Precautionary Lockdown

As a safety measure, Plantation Middle School was placed in secure mode, according to Broward County Public Schools. Authorities confirmed that the school, located on West Sunrise Boulevard and connected to Plantation High School, went into a “precautionary lockdown” shortly after the reports emerged.

The police later announced on X that the lockdown had been lifted once the immediate area was deemed safe.

One Person Injured and Taken to Hospital

The Plantation Police Department confirmed on X that officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Northwest 70th Avenue and Northwest 16th Street. According to their update, one person was injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. The current condition of the victim has not yet been released.

Police emphasized that the lockdown at Plantation Middle School was implemented solely as a precaution to protect students and staff while officers secured the scene.

Scene Cleared and No Ongoing Threat

In a later update, posted at 3:38 p.m. local time, Plantation Police confirmed that the scene is now clear and the precautionary measures at the school have been lifted. Officials stated there is no further danger to Plantation Middle School or the surrounding community.

Residents Urged to Avoid the Area

Authorities have asked local residents to avoid the vicinity as the investigation continues. Plantation High School and Plantation Middle School are both part of the Broward County Public Schools district.
