Netflix Star John Beam Hurt in Laney College Shooting

Legendary Coach John Beam Shot Near Campus Fieldhouse.

Longtime football coach John Beam was shot on Thursday at around 11:53 a.m., according to ABC7. Laney College officials confirmed that the shooting took place near the Fieldhouse, the main athletic facility on campus.

Beam, who recently retired after more than 45 years leading Laney College athletics, was taken to a nearby hospital by first responders. His condition has not yet been released.

What Happened on Campus During the Shooting?

Police issued a shelter-in-place alert minutes after shots were fired. Students and staff locked classroom doors, stayed indoors, and waited as officers searched the area for the gunman.

No additional injuries have been reported.

The lockdown was lifted once police secured the scene. Acting Police Chief James Beere said the suspected shooter is a male wearing a black hoodie.
No arrest has been announced.

John Beam’s Legacy at Laney College

John Beam gained national recognition for his leadership style and mentorship on Netflix’s Last Chance U, where he showcased his direct approach to coaching and supporting student-athletes.
