A major fire broke out in Lancaster, a charter city in Los Angeles County, California, on Friday, November 28. The blaze was reported near N. 7th Street East, and according to ABC7 Eyewitness News, hundreds of propane tanks were burning at the scene, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Lancaster is located just 9.7 miles from Palmdale, adding to regional concern as the situation escalated.

Residents quickly took to social media to share what they were seeing. One Facebook user wrote: “Something major is on fire in Lancaster anybody know what it is.”
A local stringer report confirmed multiple explosions, caused by propane tanks igniting one after another. Several fire engines were deployed as thick smoke spread across the surrounding neighborhoods, making containment efforts more challenging.

Photos and videos showed smoke rising high into the sky, visible from long distances.
A scanner update provided more alarming details: “904A….Avenue L-4 and 8th Street East…..vehicle on fire….sheriff and FD enroute code 3. UPDATE: deputies requesting additional units code 3 multiple propane tanks exploding. UPDATE 2: requesting 7 to 8 more units code 3 from Palmdale to assist with evacuations, flames spreading rapidly. UPDATE 3: originally reported as a vehicle fire now changed to an outside fire. UPDATE 4: multiple evacuations and road closures in area.”
No Immediate Threat to Nearby Communities
First responders later confirmed that there is no immediate threat to nearby neighborhoods despite the size of the fire. Crews continue working to contain the blaze.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations continue.
