Ilhan Omar Says ICE Pulled Over Her Son Adnan Hirsi

Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar has claimed that her son, Adnan Hirsi, was pulled over by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers over the weekend and asked to prove that he was an American citizen.

Speaking to CBS News, Omar said the incident happened on Saturday after her son made a stop at a Target store in Minnesota. According to the congresswoman, ICE agents stopped him and requested proof of citizenship.

“Once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go,” she said. ICE has not issued any official comment regarding the incident.

Who Is Adnan Hirsi?

Adnan Hirsi is the son of Ilhan Omar and her former husband, Ahmed Hirsi. He is one of their three children, alongside daughters Isra and Ilwad.

Very little public information is available about Hirsi. He was just 10 years old when Omar won her Minnesota congressional seat in 2016. At the time, MPR News quoted him saying, “That’s my mom. She won!” Hirsi is now 19 years old.

Omar noted that her son “always carries” his passport with him, which allowed him to quickly verify his citizenship during the ICE stop.

Not the First Encounter With Immigration Agents

According to Omar, this was not the first time her son has encountered federal immigration officers. She told CBS News that ICE agents had previously entered a mosque where Hirsi and others were praying.

The officers later left without incident.

Following that experience, Omar said she warned her son about potential risks he could face.

“I had to remind him just how worried I am, because all of these areas that they are talking about are areas where he could possibly find himself in and they are racially profiling, they are looking for young men who look Somali that they think are undocumented,” she said.

ICE Operations in Minnesota Raise Concerns

Earlier this month, federal agents entered the Twin Cities area as part of an operation targeting undocumented Somali immigrants. The move followed comments by former President Donald Trump, who said he did not “want them” in the country and referred to Omar as “garbage.”

Omar has linked the increased ICE presence to those remarks.

Omar Accuses ICE of Racial Profiling

On Friday, Omar sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, accusing federal agents of “blatant racial profiling.”

“It is clear to me that this surge came in direct response to Trump’s racist comments about Somali people, and about me in particular,” she wrote.

ICE Yet to Respond

As of now, ICE has not responded publicly to Omar’s claims regarding the stop involving Adnan Hirsi. The incident has fueled renewed debate over immigration enforcement practices, racial profiling, and the treatment of US citizens during ICE operations.
