Venmo Suffers Major Outage: Payments Failing

The mobile payment platform Venmo suffered a major outage on Wednesday evening, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to send or receive money.

According to Downdetector, more than 37,000 outage reports were logged as the app became inaccessible during peak evening hours.

Reports began spiking around 3:50 p.m. PT, jumping from roughly 4,000 to over 37,000 in less than an hour.

Users Report App Failures and Payment Errors

Both iOS and Android users reported that the Venmo app would not load or connect to servers, preventing balance-funded payments and basic account access. The outage disrupted:

  • Bill-splitting
  • Friend-to-friend transfers
  • Small business transactions
  • Urgent evening payments

Many users turned to X, formerly Twitter, to express frustration.

No Official Cause Yet From Venmo

As of now, Venmo has not released details explaining the cause of the outage. The issue remains under investigation, and the company has provided no timeline for full service restoration.

The outage marks one of the platform’s largest spikes in user complaints this year, impacting routine financial transactions for millions who rely on Venmo daily.
