Pinterest experienced a widespread outage on Thursday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the platform. According to Downdetector, more than 1,600 users flagged issues with the service as of the time of reporting.
Majority of Complaints Linked to App Malfunctions
Downdetector data showed that 87% of user complaints were related to the Pinterest app, making it the most affected platform component. Outage reports were heavily concentrated in major cities, including:
- New York and Boston on the East Coast
- Los Angeles and Phoenix on the West Coast
Users began experiencing problems around 3:14 p.m. EST, Downdetector confirmed.
Users Share Frustrations Amid Pinterest Outage
Many Pinterest users took to online forums to express their frustration over the unexpected outage.
One user wrote: “Aw man i thought i just needed to update my Pinterest but it keeps on logging me out…”
Another added:“pinterest keeps logging me out im gonna cry i think!”
A third user reported receiving an error message: “authorization failed”
The platform has not issued an official statement yet, and the cause of the outage remains unknown.
What Causes the Pinterest ‘Authorization Failed’ Error?
The ‘authorization failed’ message is typically linked to:
- Incorrect login details
- Outdated app or browser
- Cached data causing conflicts
Users can attempt temporary fixes such as:
- Logging out and back in
- Resetting the password
- Clearing browser cache
- Updating the app or browser
However, with outage reports affecting thousands, the issue appears to stem from Pinterest’s servers, meaning user-side fixes may not resolve the login errors at this time.
