A state parole agent was shot Thursday afternoon at the state parole office on Edgewater Drive in East Oakland, igniting a city-wide manhunt. The Oakland Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 12:48 PM local time in the 7700 block of Edgewater Drive. The suspect, described as a person of interest, is believed to have fled on foot following the shooting.

Agent’s Condition and Hospitalization

The state parole agent was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. However, reports regarding the officer’s condition have been conflicting. An NBC Bay Area correspondent indicated that the officer had passed away, while the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs stated that the agent is expected to recover.

Traffic Disruptions and Police Response

In response to the shooting, the California Highway Patrol has shut down several roads, including sections of Interstate 880 and Hegenberger Road, creating significant traffic delays in the area.

The Oakland Police Department announced that they will hold a media staging area in the parking lot of the 8400 block of Edgewater Drive for updates regarding the ongoing investigation and search for the suspect.

As authorities intensify their search for the assailant, community safety remains a top priority. Further details will be provided as the situation develops.
