Dan Rivera, the lead investigator of the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), tragically passed away on July 13 during the viral Devils on the Run tour, which featured the notorious Annabelle doll. Rivera, 54, was found unresponsive in a Gettysburg hotel room on Sunday evening. Despite immediate CPR efforts, he could not be revived.

According to a report by The US Sun, Rivera had been touring with the real-life Annabelle doll, recognized as America’s most haunted object, during a sold-out three-day event in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His sudden death occurred just hours after he led another enthusiastic group through the chilling tour.

Rivera’s Legacy in the Paranormal Community

While the cause of death remains unknown, Rivera’s passing came at a time of heightened public interest in the Annabelle legend. A report from The Evening Sun highlights Rivera’s journey into the paranormal, fueled by a lifelong fascination with the supernatural that led him to become a mentee of famed investigator Lorraine Warren. By 2011, he had risen through the ranks to become NESPR’s lead investigator.

Rivera was a key figure in preserving the legacy of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the couple whose cases inspired The Conjuring film series. After their deaths and the closure of their Connecticut occult museum, Rivera took artifacts like Annabelle on tour to educate the public about their history and significance.

Viral Fame and Growing Influence

Rivera gained notable popularity recently through TikTok videos created alongside fellow investigator Ryan Daniel Buell, attracting younger generations to the paranormal field. His tours frequently sold out, with over 1,200 tickets sold for the Gettysburg event alone.

Tributes to a Dedicated Investigator

Following NESPR’s announcement of Rivera’s death, heartfelt tributes poured in from colleagues. Paranormal investigator Chris Gilloren stated, “Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people.” He praised Rivera’s kindness and passion for making paranormal education safe and accessible. Buell emphasized that Rivera not only cared for Lorraine Warren in her final years but also played a critical role in continuing their legacy through events like ParaCon and the Annabelle tour.

The Annabelle Doll’s Journey

The Annabelle doll, featured prominently in The Conjuring and Annabelle films, is currently on the “Devil’s On The Run Tour,” which commenced in May. The tour has included stops in cities like New Orleans and San Antonio and will next visit Rock Island, Illinois, on October 4 and 5. When not touring, Annabelle resides at the Warrens’ Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.

Clarifying Rumors

In May, rumors regarding Annabelle’s alleged theft circulated widely. Rivera addressed these claims in a TikTok video, reassuring followers that, “I’m here at the museum right now… Annabelle is in the Warrens’ Occult Museum.” NESPR further clarified on their Facebook page, stating, “It’s a rumor… Annabelle has NOT been stolen. The doll is safely in place at the Warren Occult Museum.”
