Coachella Valley Shady Fire: Brush Fire Erupts in Thermal Near Indio

A brush fire known as 'Shady Fire' broke out Friday in Thermal’s Coachella Valley.

A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in Thermal, California, within the Coachella Valley. Dubbed the ‘Shady Fire’ by CalFire incident command, the blaze is located at Shady Lane south of Avenue 54 and is currently threatening structures to the south.

Firefighters Responding

“Firefighters are responding to a vegetation fire with black smoke and heavy fuels with a slow rate of spread. Additional resources have been requested,” stated the Riverside County Fire Department on X.

Current Status of the Fire

According to reports from Watch Duty, the Shady Fire has already spread to over 40 acres with zero containment at this time. Smoke from the blaze is visible throughout the Coachella Valley, affecting areas including Indio, Coachella, and Mecca.

Residents in the vicinity are urged to stay alert and prepare for potential evacuations as the situation develops. Further updates will be provided as firefighters work to contain the ongoing fire.
