Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Recall: Over 24K Pounds Pulled from Stores

Kayem Foods has issued a recall of over 24,000 pounds of its ready-to-eat chicken sausage after receiving multiple consumer reports of plastic pieces found in the product. The recall was confirmed by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which noted that the affected items were shipped to retailers nationwide.

Details of the Recalled Product

The specific product under recall is Kayem Foods’ 11-oz. vacuum-packedAll Natural Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont Made Syrup.” Consumers should look for the lot code “179” and the establishment number “P-7839” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausages were labeled with an expiry date of October 1, 2025.

“The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS that it received three consumer complaints reporting white pieces of plastic in the chicken sausage products,” the FSIS notice stated. Fortunately, no confirmed reports of injuries related to these products have been reported, but consumers are advised to contact a healthcare provider if they have any concerns.

Consumer Advisory: What to Do

The FSIS has urged consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled sausages. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the notice emphasized.

For further inquiries about the recall, consumers can reach out to Joellen West at Kayem Foods Inc. via email at jwest@kayem.com or by calling 617-889-1600, extension 247.

As this recall comes on the heels of similar issues in the food industry—such as the Hartford Bakery Inc. recall of a bread product due to undeclared allergens—consumers should remain vigilant about the products they purchase.
