Former X CEO Linda Yaccarino took to the platform to reshare a post praising her dedication to free speech, just hours after her resignation as the top executive at the Elon Musk-owned company.

Surprising Exit from a Key Role

Many were taken aback by Yaccarino’s exit after two years of leadership at the social media platform, which Musk purchased in 2022. During her tenure, she oversaw significant transformations, including the rebranding from Twitter to X.

Mike Benz, a former official with the US Department of State, commended Yaccarino for her commitment to free speech during what he called the “most acute crisis moment in world history.” He stated, “She stepped up for all of us in the face of what seemed like insurmountable pressure from governments, advertisers, boycotters, banking institutions, and astroturfed lynch mobs. Thank Linda for her service, and excited for her next chapter!”

Yaccarino’s Reflection and Musk’s Response

In response to Benz’s post, Yaccarino wrote, “The fight continues.”

Initially, Musk had planned to take on the CEO role himself but then paved the way for Yaccarino’s leadership after deciding to step down.

In her announcement about departing, Yaccarino expressed gratitude: “After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X. When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Musk’s reaction to her resignation was succinct, stating, “Thank you for your contributions.”
