A deadly shooting rocked the Avalon Fishing Pier in Kill Devil Hills on North Carolina’s Outer Banks Thursday afternoon, leaving one person dead and three others critically injured. The area, known for its calm beachside atmosphere and popular fishing activities, was swarmed by law enforcement and EMS following reports of gunfire.

Massive Police and EMS Response to Avalon Fishing Pier

Law enforcement agencies responded swiftly to reports of shots being fired at the Avalon Fishing Pier, located at 2111 N Virginia Dare Trail. The pier, a well-known tourist destination in Kill Devil Hills, saw a heavy police and medical presence shortly after 2 p.m. on July 31.

As of now, official confirmation from the Kill Devil Hills Police Department is still pending. However, multiple eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as first responders secured the area.

One Person Killed, Three Others Critically Wounded

Upon arrival at the scene, police confirmed that one individual had been fatally shot. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures but were unable to revive the victim, who was pronounced dead on-site.

Three additional victims were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Their identities and specific injuries have not yet been released, and police are actively working to notify their families.

Suspect Captured After Attempted Escape

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department later confirmed that the suspect fled the scene by vehicle, attempting to escape town. Thanks to quick coordination among local agencies, the suspect was apprehended near the town’s new fire station without incident.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect, nor has any motive been confirmed at this time.

The shooting has stunned the typically peaceful community of Kill Devil Hills. The Avalon Fishing Pier, a beloved landmark frequented by both tourists and locals, was placed on lockdown as police continued their investigation.
