U.S. Vice President JD Vance has publicly shared his deep fascination with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and plans to investigate them during the upcoming congressional recess. In a newly released episode of the Ruthless podcast on Friday, Vance revealed his long-standing curiosity, telling hosts he’s “obsessed” with the topic, Fox News reported.
“What Were Those Videos About?” Vance Questions UFO Footage
NEW: JD Vance says he’s focused on UFOs and will use the August recess to dig into “the UFO thing from last year”
“What were those videos all about? What’s actually happening? I haven’t gotten to the bottom of it yet. But we’re only 6 months in and we’ve been very busy.” pic.twitter.com/3j3DWWzeGM

“What is actually up? What were those videos about?” — JD Vance, on the Ruthless podcast
While acknowledging he hasn’t fully explored the subject yet, Vance said the August break will allow him to “dive into the whole UFO thing from last year.”
Despite the lighthearted tone—Vance even joked about bringing the podcast hosts to Area 51—his interest in UAPs (unexplained aerial phenomena) appeared genuine. His remarks come amid growing public and congressional scrutiny of aerial anomalies, especially following a series of hearings and classified leaks.
Growing Interest in UAPs as Government Testimony Mounts
Vance’s comments follow increased federal attention to UAPs, particularly after the House Oversight Committee held hearings last November. One of the most significant testimonies came from Luis Elizondo, former Pentagon official and head of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP).
Elizondo alleged a covert group within the U.S. government was hiding critical information about extraterrestrial phenomena.
“Excessive secrecy has resulted in grave injustices against loyal civil servants, members of our military, and the American public,” Elizondo warned during the hearing.
He also suggested that evidence exists which implies “we are not alone in the cosmos.”
The New Jersey Drone Mystery Still Unsolved
Among the most publicized aerial incidents from 2024 was the New Jersey drone sighting near Picatinny Arsenal, where residents reported seeing SUV-sized drones hovering at night. The incident created public alarm and fueled speculation.
According to Fox News, the White House later clarified that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had authorized the drone activity for research purposes. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the flights were part of a controlled study and not cause for concern.
Still, it’s unclear whether Vance was directly referring to this case, although it remains one of the most discussed aerial mysteries in recent months.
Marco Rubio Also Raised Alarm Over Secret Crash Program
Former Senator and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio added fuel to the UFO debate in 2023 during an appearance linked to the documentary Age of Disclosure. He claimed some U.S. officials had “first-hand knowledge” of a secret Pentagon crash retrieval program.
The mounting claims and congressional attention suggest the UFO conversation has shifted from fringe speculation to legitimate national security discourse—something JD Vance now seems eager to explore further.
