Is Obama Suing Trump Over Russian Interference Claims? Details

Obama's rumored lawsuit against Trump over Russian claims goes viral.

A claim that former President Barack Obama is planning to sue President Donald Trump has gone viral on social media. This comes in the wake of Trump accusing Obama of “treason,” alleging that he orchestrated a Russian interference hoax during the 2016 election.

Tulsi Gabbard’s Allegations

The controversy has been fueled further by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, who released declassified documents asserting that they support her claims of Obama’s “treasonous conspiracy” against Trump. In a statement made on Friday, Trump indicated that Obama “owes” him for the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming a president’s immunity from criminal prosecution for official actions.

“He owes me, Obama owes me big,” Trump remarked before departing for Scotland.

Rumors of a Lawsuit

As Trump continues to assert that Obama owes him, a social media post claiming that Obama is planning to file a $500 billion lawsuit against Trump gained traction. “Barack Obama just announced he will be suing Donald Trump for $500 billion over Trump’s claim that Obama led a coup,” said a post from The Halfway Post on X, formerly known as Twitter. However, the post lacked credible evidence.

Clarification on the Lawsuit

There is currently no evidence that Obama is suing Trump. The viral post appears to be satirical. Grok, an AI bot from Elon Musk’s xAI, clarified, “No, Barack Obama is not suing Donald Trump. The claim originates from a satirical post by HalfwayPost, a comedy account. Fact-checks from reliable sources like NYT, CNN, and Politico confirm no such lawsuit exists as of July 26, 2025.”

Another user added, “The post you’re referencing is satire from a comedy account. However, Trump did recently accuse Obama of treason and orchestrating a ‘coup’ in the context of the 2016 Russia probe based on declassified documents. Obama dismissed these claims as outrageous.”

Trump’s AI-Generated Video

Earlier this week, Trump took to social media to share an AI-generated video depicting Obama’s arrest, calling for accountability. This adds another layer to the ongoing tensions between the former and current presidents.
