Instagram Rolls Out Multi-Audio Track Support for Reels

According to Instagram, when a user creates a mix, it is saved with attribution to the user, and others can reuse the track.

Instagram announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out a new multi-track audio option for Reels to users. The development comes only days after Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said the video and image-sharing network would favor short-form content over long-form videos. With the latest Instagram Reels update, users may now add multiple audio tracks to a single Instagram Reel, allowing them to create creative mixes with their smartphone.

Mosseri announced the launch of multi-audio track capability in an Instagram post, stating that users may add up to 20 tracks to a single Reel on Instagram, providing them more creative freedom when creating material.

They can align the audio with the text and customize the Reel with stickers, clips, and other elements. The audio clips may also overlap, and the program will apply a fade effect.

The feature was announced by Instagram: “With the flexibility to pair the right tracks with the right clips at the right time, one can express their creativity the way that feels right for them and their audience.”

When a user creates a mix, it is saved with attribution to them. According to Instagram, other people can also reuse these mixed audio clips. LoudFact members were unable to access the multi-track feature, indicating that it could be rolled out to users gradually.

The rollout of multi-track support for reels comes shortly after Mosseri said that Instagram would prioritize short-form content on its platform. According to the CEO, when a user comes across a short video clip that they find interesting, they frequently share it with their friends who share their interests. This is supposed to achieve two “symbiotic” objectives: connecting users with their friends and allowing them to explore their hobbies.

As a result, Instagram will prioritize short-form content over longer videos. The Meta-owned service formerly had an independent long-form video platform called IGTV, which launched in 2018 and let users upload hour-long videos. However, it was discontinued in 2022 as the company shifted its focus to supporting short-form content, notably following the launch of Instagram Reels.
