WWE legend Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, is being honored in Florida with a special day of recognition. Governor Ron DeSantis announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that August 1 will officially be Hulk Hogan Day in the state.

“In honor of a great Floridian, Hulk Hogan, we are lowering the flags at the Capitol and in Pinellas County tomorrow,” DeSantis said. “Rest in peace, brother,” he added. “He was a true Floridian through and through.”

Hogan, who spent much of his life in Clearwater, Florida, passed away at the age of 71 from a heart attack on July 24.

What to Expect on Hulk Hogan Day

The official recognition will include flag-lowering ceremonies at the state Capitol and in Pinellas County, where Hogan resided. Fans and Floridians are expected to pay tribute to the wrestling icon who defined a generation of sports entertainment.

Hogan’s Political Spotlight and Final Public Appearance

Hulk Hogan recently made headlines after a fiery appearance at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he delivered a speech supporting then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. Hogan energized the crowd by tearing off his shirt in trademark fashion, a nod to his in-ring persona and enduring charisma.

Following his death, numerous political figures expressed condolences, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Medical Examiner: Cause of Death Was “Natural”

According to a police report, Hogan died less than 90 minutes after medics arrived at his Clearwater home on the morning of July 24 in response to a cardiac arrest call. While the primary cause of death was a heart attack, the medical examiner noted he had also been suffering from leukemia and atrial fibrillation, a serious heart rhythm disorder.

Tributes Pour In from Family and Fans

His wife, Sky Daily, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying:

“He had been dealing with some health issues, but I truly believed we would overcome them.”

“This loss is sudden and impossible to process. To the world, he was a legend… but to me, he was my Terry.”

Legacy of a Wrestling Icon

Hulk Hogan was arguably the biggest superstar in WWE history, headlining the first WrestleMania in 1985 and shaping the global popularity of pro wrestling. Known for his feuds with legends like Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, The Rock, and Vince McMahon, Hogan remained a towering figure in both sports and pop culture for decades.

His iconic catchphrases, charisma, and signature moves turned him into a household name — and now, Florida will forever honor him with Hulk Hogan Day.
