A shooting was reported on the campus of Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, on Saturday evening, triggering a campus-wide lockdown.
The university sent an emergency notification shortly after 7:00 p.m. local time on October 11, instructing students and faculty to “seek shelter immediately” and remain secured indoors until further notice.
Campus police responded immediately to the reports, though officials did not specify the exact location or nature of the incident. The alert added: “Do not leave your secure location until given an all clear by Campus Police.”

Local Law Enforcement Joins Response
Authorities from Jefferson and Claiborne counties joined the campus police in responding to the situation. Multiple emergency vehicles were observed entering the main gates near Alcorn Parkway, according to eyewitness posts on X.
One student told WLBT Jackson that sirens and police lights were visible near the student center shortly after the alert was issued.

As of 9:00 p.m. local time, no details were released regarding injuries, suspects, or the cause of the shooting. A university spokesperson told WAPT News:
“Law enforcement is actively investigating the situation,” and emphasized that an all-clear notice will be issued once it is safe.
