Minor flooding is already impacting parts of Waukesha County, but officials warn the situation will intensify as the Fox River continues to rise toward potentially historic levels.

Current River Conditions

As of 9:00 AM CDT Sunday, the Fox River measured 6.4 feet, a stage that typically brings minor flooding, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Forecast models from the National Water Prediction Service predict the river could crest at 10.8 feet later this evening — two feet higher than the previous record of 8.8 feet set in 2008. This would push the area into major flood territory.

NWS Flood Warning in Effect

A Flood Warning remains in place until early Tuesday morning for portions of Wisconsin, including Waukesha County.

“The river is expected to rise to a crest of 10.8 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late tomorrow evening,” the NWS stated.

The alert further warns: “At 10.0 feet, water hits the base of Barstow St bridge and Bank St bridge. Corrina Blvd, Buckley St, Baxter St, W Main St is flooded. Water impacts Bank St and E St Paul Ave. Frame Park is flooded. There is widespread flooding around homes in the Bethesda Court area about one half mile south of downtown Waukesha.”

Road Closures and Travel Impact

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has confirmed several road closures due to rising floodwaters. Motorists are urged to avoid:

What Residents Should Do

With major flooding expected, residents are urged to monitor alerts, avoid flooded areas, and prepare for possible evacuation if conditions worsen.
