Fortnite Maintains Over 1 Million Monthly Active Players – Details

Despite a drop from its late 2024 peak, Fortnite still averages over 1 million monthly players in 2025.

Epic Games’ Fortnite continues to lead the battle royale genre in 2025, even as its player activity has cooled from its massive peak in late 2024. According to data from fortnite.gg, the game averaged just over 1.15 million active players in June 2025, a modest rebound from May, which marked the lowest monthly average since mid-2023.

While these numbers pale in comparison to the game’s record-breaking highs, they’re still enough to keep Fortnite ahead of most of its competitors.

From Millions to a Slight Slowdown

In 2024, Fortnite consistently attracted around 2 million monthly active users, per Dexerto. However, 2025 began with a gradual decline: January saw an average of 1.8 million players, with figures sliding downward through March and April.

The recent uptick in June is likely tied to the launch of Chapter 6 Season 3, which introduced a superhero-themed update and reenergized the player base.

November 2024: Fortnite’s Biggest Moment

Fortnite’s most explosive moment came on November 30, 2024, during the highly anticipated Remix Finale event. As reported by Dexerto, the game reached an all-time peak of 14.3 million concurrent players, with over 44 million logging in over 24 hours. The throwback season finale, which included a tribute to Juice WRLD, drew global attention and marked one of the biggest days in Fortnite history.

Although the numbers have tapered off since then, the game has retained a committed player base and continues to perform consistently month after month.

Still Ahead of the Competition

Despite the overall dip, Fortnite remains the most-played battle royale title, according to activeplayer.io. In comparison:

  • Counter-Strike 2: ~1.07 million average monthly players
  • Apex Legends: Just over 100,000
  • Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty titles trail even further behind

Rather than fading, Fortnite continues to set the standard in a competitive space, backed by strong live-service updates, seasonal content, and brand collaborations.

With more major events and crossovers expected later this year, the second half of 2025 may offer Fortnite another surge in momentum, proving the game’s staying power well beyond its peak.
