Jake Haro, father of missing 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, reportedly confessed to killing his son and disposing of the body in a trash can inside their home, according to NewsNation reporter Brian Entin. The confession came during a conversation with an undercover inmate informant, a law enforcement method used to obtain confessions known as a Perkins informant.
Initial Story and Arrests
Jake Haro initially told police that he accidentally suffocated Emmanuel while the baby was sleeping and later buried the body near a freeway. Emmanuel’s body has not been found. Both Jake, 32, and his wife Rebecca Haro, 41, have been arrested and charged with murder and filing a false police report.
Rebecca Haro had claimed that a stranger kidnapped Emmanuel from a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa on August 14 after knocking her unconscious. Investigators found inconsistencies in their stories and believe the baby may have died up to nine days before the alleged abduction.
Abuse Evidence and Ongoing Investigation
Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin said Emmanuel suffered prolonged physical abuse, which caused his death. Authorities also believe they have a strong idea of where the baby’s remains may be and continue searching.
Jake Haro had previously been convicted of child cruelty in 2023 and was ordered to participate in a child abuse treatment program. Despite his former attorney’s doubts about the couple’s involvement, Jake’s confession and other evidence have led to serious charges against both parents.
