Wisconsin Tornado: Massive Twister Hits Madison, Sauk City, and More

A tornado touched down in Dane County, Wisconsin, on Wednesday morning, confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS). The tornado is moving northeast at a speed of 30 mph, having first been spotted in Mazomanie by storm chasers and is now near Sauk City, approximately seven and a half miles northeast of its origin. Nearby communities such as Monticello and Prairie du Sac are also under significant threat.

Widespread Tornado Warnings

As of Wednesday morning, the NWS has placed at least 20 counties in Wisconsin under tornado warnings. While most warnings are expected to expire by 6 PM on Wednesday, some counties will see alerts extend until Thursday afternoon.

Ben Miller, a meteorologist with NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan, stated to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “We’re expecting everything to be east and out to the lake by 6 PM.” Counties under warning include Milwaukee, Dane, Ozaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, and Racine.

As the situation develops, residents in the affected areas are urged to stay alert and follow safety precautions.
