Texas A&M Football Row Sparks DPS Trooper Action

The Texas A&M Police Department has confirmed that action is being taken against a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper involved in an incident with South Carolina football players during Saturday’s game.

“We are aware of the incident in the NE tunnel involving a DPS trooper. He has been relieved of his game day assignment,” the department said in a statement posted on social media.

Viral Video Shows Trooper Shoulder-Checking Players

A widely circulated video from the game shows the trooper brushing shoulders with two South Carolina players during their matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies. After the initial contact, the trooper appeared to shout at the players as they walked through the tunnel — a moment many viewers described as “intimidating.” The footage sparked strong backlash online.

DPS Issues Statement, Launches Internal Review

The Texas Department of Public Safety also released a statement addressing the situation: “The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game. The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time.”

Incident Occurred After 80-Yard South Carolina Touchdown

The clash happened in the final minute of the first half. It followed an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Marcel Reed to Nyck Harbour, which briefly put South Carolina ahead 27–3. After scoring, Harbour ran into the tunnel while holding the back of his leg, prompting teammates to follow him. As the players returned to the field, the trooper was seen shouldering Harbour and shouting.

  • A 27-yard pass from Marcel Reed to Izaiah Williams
  • A 39-yard pass to Ashton Bethel-Roman
  • A 14-yard pass to Nate Boerkircher

The Aggies completed their comeback with a 4-yard rushing touchdown by EJ Smith in the fourth quarter, turning a 30–3 halftime deficit into a dramatic 31–30 victory, preserving their unbeaten season.
