Banner Elk Fire: Crews Battle Fast Brush Blaze

Fire crews from Avery and Watauga counties are actively responding to a large and fast-spreading brush fire in the 1600 block of Banner Elk Highway, according to Avery County Communications.

Wildfire Grows Near Banner Elk and Beech Mountain

The Banner Elk fire, which ignited Monday afternoon, remains uncontained as it spreads quickly through wooded areas near the Elk River Airport. Officials say the wildfire is moving rapidly due to dry conditions and challenging terrain.

Mutual Aid Requested as Conditions Intensify

Emergency dispatchers confirmed that all available fire departments have been called to provide mutual aid at 1688 Banner Elk Highway, where firefighters are working to slow the fire’s advance. A medic unit has also been deployed to the scene for standby support.

Ongoing Efforts to Contain the Fire
