A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in Thermal, California, within the Coachella Valley. Dubbed the ‘Shady Fire’ by CalFire incident command, the blaze is located at Shady Lane south of Avenue 54 and is currently threatening structures to the south.

“Firefighters are responding to a vegetation fire with black smoke and heavy fuels with a slow rate of spread. Additional resources have been requested,” stated the Riverside County Fire Department on X.
Current Status of the Fire
According to reports from Watch Duty, the Shady Fire has already spread to over 40 acres with zero containment at this time. Smoke from the blaze is visible throughout the Coachella Valley, affecting areas including Indio, Coachella, and Mecca.
