On Tuesday afternoon, OpenAI’s ChatGPT was down for thousands of users across the United States, as reported by DownDetector. Over 3,400 individuals reported issues with the chatbot, highlighting a significant service disruption.

According to DownDetector, a platform that monitors outages based on user feedback, 82% of those experiencing problems reported outages with ChatGPT, while 12% faced issues with the website and 6% with the app. Users expressed frustration as they found themselves unable to load chat history and encountered an “unusual error detected” message when attempting to access their chats.

OpenAI Acknowledges Service Issues

OpenAI has recognized the outage on its official status page, stating, “We’re currently experiencing issues. Elevated error rates on ChatGPT Record mode, Sora, and Codex. We have identified that users are experiencing elevated errors for the impacted services. We are working on implementing a mitigation.”

As users await a resolution, the outage raises concerns about the reliability of the popular AI chatbot, which has become a critical tool for many seeking assistance and information. Further updates will be provided as OpenAI works to resolve the ongoing issues.
