Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the head of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Wednesday. Officials are calling it a targeted attack during a campus event that was part of his American Comeback Tour.
According to university spokeswoman Ellen Treanor, the shooting happened about 20 minutes into Kirk’s speech to students and community members in the campus courtyard.
Details of the Attack
Authorities say the suspect allegedly opened fire from the Losee Center, a building roughly 200 yards from the event stage.
An initial UVU alert stated that the shooter had been taken into custody and was not a student. However, later clarification from university spokesman Scott Trotter revealed that the individual detained was not actually the shooter.
As of now, law enforcement has not confirmed the suspect’s identity or announced possible charges.
Kirk’s Condition Remains Unclear
Reports confirm that Charlie Kirk was struck during the attack, but no official update has been released on the extent of his injuries.
Kirk had been traveling across campuses as part of his American Comeback Tour, aimed at engaging conservative students and young voters.
Reactions and Viral Video
A video circulating online shows an elderly man in a blue shirt and white shorts being handcuffed. Authorities have not verified whether this person is the suspect.
Former President Donald Trump reacted on Truth Social, writing: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
Investigation Ongoing
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident. Officials are urging patience as they verify details about the suspect and Kirk’s condition.
This shocking attack at UVU has raised major concerns about security at campus events and the safety of public figures.
