The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a Blue Alert for Benjamin Hanil Song, the suspect in a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Song as the 12th suspect in the planned ambush on the ICE detention center.

Shooting Incident and Reward for Information

Song allegedly opened fire at the Prairieland Detention Center, injuring one officer during the attack. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to Song’s arrest and conviction.

At 32 years old, Benjamin Hanil Song resides in Dallas, Texas and is a veteran who served in the US Marine Corps Reserve from 2011 to 2016. He has been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three counts of discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to an FBI statement released on Wednesday.

Role in the Ambush

Reports indicate that Song was responsible for firing at the Prairieland Detention Center while a group of 10 to 11 individuals attempted to lure the guarding officers away from the area. He allegedly used two AR-15 rifles to fire at the facility, which were discovered in the woods near where Song was said to be positioned. Law enforcement tracked Song by examining the purchase history of the weapons, which he had acquired.

Ongoing Manhunt for Suspect

As the manhunt for Benjamin Hanil Song continues, the FBI has warned that he is armed and dangerous. Texans are urged to report any sightings of him immediately. “If you have any information, please call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a digital tip to fbi.gov/prairieland,” the FBI’s statement reads.
