The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a Blue Alert for Benjamin Hanil Song, the suspect in a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4. At 32 years old, Benjamin Hanil Song resides in Dallas, Texas and is a veteran who served in the US Marine Corps Reserve from 2011 to 2016. He has been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three counts of discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to an FBI statement released on Wednesday.
Role in the Ambush
Reports indicate that Song was responsible for firing at the Prairieland Detention Center while a group of 10 to 11 individuals attempted to lure the guarding officers away from the area. He allegedly used two AR-15 rifles to fire at the facility, which were discovered in the woods near where Song was said to be positioned. Law enforcement tracked Song by examining the purchase history of the weapons, which he had acquired.
