Wichita, Kansas experienced dangerous weather on Wednesday evening as powerful hailstorms moved through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Wichita, Derby, and Haysville until 9:00 p.m. CDT.

Videos shared by locals showed baseball-sized hail falling across Wichita. Some areas reported tennis-ball-sized hail, causing damage to cars, roofs, and windows.

“Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for Wichita KS, Derby KS, and Haysville KS until 9:00 PM CDT. This storm will contain tennis ball sized hail!” the NWS alert said.
NWS Urges Residents to Take Shelter
The National Weather Service emphasized the seriousness of the storm:
“Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in effect in southern Kansas including Wichita as storms are capable or have been observed producing large to very large hail and damaging winds so seek shelter now.”
Residents were advised to stay away from windows and move to safe areas indoors immediately.
