A tragic shooting at a Target store off Research Boulevard in North Austin on Monday afternoon left three people dead and at least one other injured, according to the Austin Police Department.

Suspect Arrested After Brief Manhunt

The suspect, described as a white male wearing khaki shorts and a Hawaiian floral shirt, allegedly opened fire in the parking lot before fleeing in a stolen vehicle. By 3:30 p.m., Austin PD confirmed the suspect had been detained.

“At least four people were shot with three confirmed fatalities,” police said in a statement.

  • Just before 3 p.m. — Shots fired in the parking lot of the Target on the 8000 block of Research Boulevard/MoPac Expressway.
  • After the shooting — Suspect fled the scene in a carjacked vehicle.
  • 3:30 p.m. — Suspect taken into custody without further incident.

Emergency Response

Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed via their official X (Twitter) account that at least four victims were involved. Multiple police units, EMS teams, and crime scene investigators remain on site.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have not released the suspect’s name or a possible motive. The area remains an active crime scene, with parts of the parking lot closed off.
