Apple has officially released the public beta version of iOS 26, marking one of the most significant software redesigns for the iPhone in over a decade. First introduced during WWDC 2025, this update features a complete aesthetic overhaul, dubbed “Liquid Glass,” along with advanced AI-powered features and app enhancements.

Introducing Liquid Glass Design

At the core of iOS 26 is the Liquid Glass design, which replaces traditional flat 2D visuals with dynamic, fluid animations. According to CNBC, menus appear to morph and float, while translucent buttons ripple with movement, resulting in a more interactive experience. The interface’s bubbly glass-like animations enhance the feeling of a living, responsive device. Notably, the lock screen has been updated, allowing users to reposition the clock, add widgets, and maintain visibility for notifications and Live Activities.

Major App Improvements

As reported by Short Cut, Apple has also overhauled key applications, including:

  • Phone App: Merges recent calls and voicemails on one screen, introducing call screening and hold assist features to filter spam.
  • Messages: Users can now customize backgrounds, conduct conversation polls, and experience improved message filtering.
  • Camera and Photos: A revamped interface simplifies navigation, creating a cleaner user experience.
  • Apple Music: New features include lyric translation, pronunciation guides, and AutoMix functionality.
  • Apple Maps: Now remembers visited places during trips, providing added convenience.
  • Apple Wallet: Supports digital passports and a redesigned experience for boarding passes.

Enhanced AI Features

Although a full Siri overhaul is set for 2026, iOS 26 introduces smarter tools, including live translations in Messages, FaceTime, and phone calls. It features visual intelligence for analyzing screenshots, emoji remixing, and AI-enhanced shortcuts, as reported by CNBC.

Release Timeline and Device Compatibility

The full release of iOS 26 is anticipated in Fall 2025, likely coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 17 series. However, eager users can now access the public beta to test new features and provide feedback.

Supported Devices

iOS 26 will be compatible with a range of iPhones, including:

  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
  • iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16
  • Upcoming iPhone 17 series

How to Install the iOS 26 Beta

To install the iOS 26 Public Beta, users must enroll their device on Apple’s Beta Software Program website. Once registered, they can select iOS 26 Public Beta from Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates on their iPhone and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
