Authorities have placed Morrisville College (SUNY Morrisville) under lockdown following reports of a shooting incident on campus Monday afternoon.

According to Madison County Public Information Officer Samantha Field, the college was locked down as law enforcement responded to the scene. Police are urging residents and students to stay away from the area while the investigation continues.

The Morrisville College emergency alert system notified students around midday, confirming that the shooting took place inside South Hall and that one person was injured.

In an email sent to students, university officials stated: “Campus on Lockdown. Shooting has occurred in South Hall, one person is injured. At this time the suspect is unknown. Shelter in place until further notice. Additional information will be provided when available.”

As of now, no additional details regarding the suspect or the injured victim’s condition have been released.

Local media, including News Channel 9’s Andrew Donovan, reported that police have clarified this is not an active shooter situation. However, officers continue to secure the area around South Hall, located toward the back of the Morrisville College campus.

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation, and the current condition of the injured individual has not yet been confirmed.

Nearby School Also Placed on Lockdown

In addition to SUNY Morrisville, Morrisville Elementary School, located on the same campus grounds, was also placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Authorities continue to monitor the area and are expected to release more information as it becomes available. Students and staff are advised to shelter in place until the official all-clear is given.
