Ford Truck Recall: 312,000 Vehicles Affected by Brake Problem

Brake Booster Failure in Ford Trucks Could Increase Crash Risk, Says NHTSA.

Share

Automobile manufacturer Ford is recalling 312,000 vehicles due to a critical issue with the power brake assist system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The agency reported that the issue stems from the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module, which may lose power while the vehicle is in motion.

“This would extend stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA noted.

In cases where Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are active, a failure of the brake booster could cause the vehicle to fail to brake as expected, further raising the chance of collisions.

What Are Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)?

These are smart safety features integrated into modern vehicles to help drivers avoid accidents. If the EBB module fails while ADAS features are enabled, braking performance could be compromised.

How Will Ford Fix the Issue?

According to the NHTSA, Ford will offer two repair options — both free of charge:

  • An over-the-air (OTA) software update
  • A dealer-performed update

Owners don’t need to pay or take action immediately unless instructed.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall affects approximately 312,120 vehicles, including:

  • Ford F-150: America’s best-selling pickup, described by Ford as: “From the vocational truck that works as hard as you, to a mighty weekend warrior to help you break free from the daily grind.”
  • Ford Bronco: A rugged and versatile SUV, built to “conquer any terrain.”
  • Ford Ranger: A compact or mid-size pickup with strong engine performance and high ground clearance.
