The updated Yahoo Mail app for iOS can now summarize messages, help users compose emails, and more.

Yahoo Mail is undergoing a redesign. The company revealed last week that it is redesigning the app focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). It now has additional features like message summarization, email composing assistance, and the ability to organize and categorize emails.

To enhance the in-app experience, the app has introduced gamification tools, a messaging-inspired UI, and AI features. The redesigned Yahoo Mail app in the US is currently available on iOS.

Yahoo described the new features of its Mail app in a press release. According to the company, the new app’s main goal is to assist users in managing the amount of their inbox and prioritizing the most important messages. The company used AI and gamification tools to create this experience but did not reveal the AI models used to power the new features.

Yahoo has started offering customers one-line email summaries generated by AI, which the company calls an AI-powered inbox. The summaries are shown in a preview window and are accompanied by proposed actions which include response suggestions.  According to the company, this method will allow users to reply to emails quickly, which would otherwise take up crucial user time.

Other options available in the quick-actions interface include options to view bills, access verification codes, track packages, view images and attachments, add events to the calendar, RSVP to invites, and more. Users can also select the email categories that are essential to them in order to personalize their notifications.

Yahoo Mail’s user interface is designed to resemble a messaging app, allowing users to rapidly engage in a message thread and respond with a few taps. Additionally, it has an AI capability that can change a message’s tone to make it seem more official, pleasant, professional, or concise.

Additionally, the company is allowing users to organize their primary inboxes. Emails can be arranged by sender, content, and themes, and users can sort them by key messages. Additionally, users can remove their own messages and unsubscribe from emails sent by senders.

Yahoo’s Mail app now offers a gamification aspect as well. Prompts asking users to archive, delete, or mark emails as read have been added by the company itself. One tap is sufficient to complete the action when using the visual prompts. It is referred to by the company as “gamifying inbox clean-up.”

Lastly, users can integrate numerous email accounts with the new Yahoo Mail app. This implies that users don’t have to create a new account in order to use the app’s email management functions. The application works with well-known email programs including Gmail, Outlook, and others.
