When it comes to mobile messaging apps, ‘stories’, or temporary posts that disappear after 24 hours are almost ubiquitous now, with apps like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Spotify, and even LinkedIn sporting the feature. Twitter is now upgrading Fleets, its own take on stories, with a new feature – Twemoji stickers.
The new Twemoji feature lets you use a set of stickers on top of any image or video that you’re sharing as a Fleet. The feature was recently announced by Twitter Japan, informing users that they could start using the new sticker tray at the top of the Fleet creation window. From there you can then tap on any of the Twemoji, move them around on top of other content or text.

In addition to the sticker tray, you can also search for Twemoji, implying that the company has tagged certain emoji with either descriptive names or descriptions to match user searches.
While you can also insert emojis on your phone right now with just the keyboard composer – and then resize them. But the introduction of the Twemoji can be considered a good sign as it could be an indicator of more features coming to Fleets in the future.

Twitter’s Fleets are still pretty barebones on the features front when one compares it to heavyweights like Snapchat and Instagram that offer lots of ‘filters’ and ‘lenses’ and special effects – TikTok even uses Apple’s new LiDAR scanners for special AR effects.
But considering how recently Fleets were introduced, it is great to see Twitter bringing more features to Fleets as it attempts to increase active users and monetize more features this year.
The feature is now available for users in Japan, while other countries could get the feature soon enough.
