Telegram Announces Sponsored Messages Feature

Telegram Sponsored messages, a tool that will allow everyone to promote channels and bots, is all set to launch. It will be displayed in large public one-to-many channels with more than 1000 subscribers, which is likely to provide an extended reach.

According to Telegram, Sponsored messages are limited to 160 characters and based solely on the topic of the public channels in which they are shown, which means that no user data is compromised or analyzed to display the ads. This also means the same sponsored messages will be witnessed by every user of that particular channel.

Telegram chief, rushed to reassure users about its intentions. “There will be no ads in chats on Telegram. If you use Telegram as the messenger that we launched in 2013 – you will never see a sponsored message. Sponsored messages can’t appear in your chat list, private chats or groups.” Pavel Durov, Founder and CEO of Twitter wrote on his blog.

Features of Sponsored messages

1. No User data mining

Your data is safe is what the company is promising even with the Sponsored Messages feature. As mentioned above, the ads will only be shown in channels with 1000+ members and based solely on the topic of it.

2. No ads in your Telegram chat

The sponsored messages will be available in mass channels only. Your private chats or groups won’t be affected by these advertisements.

3. Telegram Sponsored messages will be unobtrusive

Official sponsored messages are limited to 160 characters of text – no images or external links are included in it. You will only see one sponsored message on each channel, and only after you’ve read all of the new posts.

Telegram mentioned that the Sponsored messages feature is currently in test mode and is not available to everyone.

Telegram says that this will ensure that when Sponsored messages feature is fully launched, it will cover its basic costs such as equipment and data centers that are used by channel admins to deliver their content to Telegram’s hundreds of millions of users.

Further, it will start sharing ad revenue with the admins of the channels of Sponsored Messages.
