Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 Launched: Specs, Top Features

The Snapdragon 678 system-on-chip is the successor to Snapdragon 675 SoC that was launched back in October 2018.

Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon 678 processor. The Snapdragon 678 system-on-chip is the successor to Snapdragon 675 SoC that was launched back in October 2018 and it offers performance upgrades, better photo and video quality, and an immersive entertainment experience over its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 678 comes with Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU core that clocks a speed of up to 2.2GHz and Qualcomm’s Adreno 612 GPU that offers better performance and greater efficiency than the Snapdragon 675 SoC.

It also has Qualcomm’s Hexagon 685 DSP processor. Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon 678 is optimized for Unity, Messiah, NeoX, and Unreal Engine 4, and other top gaming engines.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the Snapdragon 678 SoC comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that offers superior 4G LTE connectivity for streaming games, movies and music. This is the same modem that is available in Snapdragon 675 SoC.

It offers a peak download speed of 600Mbps and a peak upload speed of 150Mbps. It also supports VoLTE with SRVCC to 3G and 2G, VoWiFi with LTE call continuity, HD and Ultra HD Voice (EVS) technologies.

In addition to these, Snapdragon 678 SoC features support for Bluetooth 5.0 with a speed of 2 Mbps, WiFi 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, and NFC.

The Snapdragon 678 SoC camera has been manufactured using the 11nm process comes with the Qualcomm Spectra 250L image signal processor and a 2x Image Signal Processor (ISP). It supports a triple rear camera setup with up to 48MP resolution with zero shutter lag and a dual front camera with a resolution of 16MP.

As far as the video is concerned, it offers 4K Ultra HD video capture capabilities along with the ability to record slow-motion videos. It also has features like Portrait Mode (Bokeh), Low-Light Capture, and Laser Autofocus create smarter photography experiences, allowing users to enhance their photographs

Talking about the display, the newly launched SoC supports FHD+ displays with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels. It also supports Qualcomm’s TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm Aqstic’s audio technology and Qualcomm aptX audio technology for a superior audio experience.

Additionally, it has Qualcomm Content Protection, Qualcomm’s Mobile Security, and Qualcomm’s Processor Security for protection. It also offers support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology.
