WhatsApp for Android is apparently developing a new feature that will allow users to save and filter their favorite chats for easy access. This feature is in development, and according to the report, it is being rolled out to testers who have joined the Google Play Beta Program.

When it becomes available in beta, these users will be able to see and test the feature. Notably, WhatsApp is apparently experimenting with unread messages and group filters to display select chats.

WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, discovered the new feature in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.7. The feature allows users to apply a new filter to separate their favorite conversations.

It is likely to be useful for those who receive a large number of messages from multiple persons and struggle to locate their regular contacts. While the chat pinning feature exists, the platform only allows for three pinned chats.

The report also provided a screenshot of the feature. The image shows four new filters at the top of the screen (below the WhatsApp logo). The All, Unread, and Groups filters were supposedly included previously. A fourth Favourites filter can now be seen.

The feature’s description reads, “Make it easy to find the people and groups that matter most across WhatsApp.” To manually add contacts to this list, select the “Add to Favourites” button near the bottom of the screen.

WABetaInfo also states that users can remove and reorder chats according to their preferences. Since the function is still in beta, not all beta testers will see it immediately, but it should surface within the next few days.

Further, WhatsApp has recently doubled the maximum time limit for audio messages in Status updates. Previously, users could only submit 30-second voice messages, but the instant messaging network has now extended the limit to one minute.

This feature has been implemented on both Android and iOS. Apart from that, the platform is apparently working on an Imagine shortcut that will allow users to create AI-powered images. This functionality is powered by Meta AI.
