Samsung has stated that it is working on the extended reality headset with Google and Qualcomm.

Samsung is believed to be developing an extended reality (XR) headset to compete with Apple and Meta in the virtual reality market. Earlier this year, the South Korean technology conglomerate announced a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm to develop the wearable.

According to the fresh reports, Samsung’s XR headset could be available in late 2024. Remember that Apple’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, is planned to go on sale early next year. As a result, the Samsung XR headset may debut a few months after its competitor.

According to 9to5Google (via JoongAng), Samsung aims to introduce its XR headset dubbed “Infinite” in the second half of 2024. According to the initial report, Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) division plans to begin manufacturing of headsets in December of next year.

The product will supposedly be announced at an Unpacked event in the second half of 2024. This could align with the timeline for Samsung’s 2024 Unpacked event, where the company will unveil its next generation of foldable phones. The Galaxy S24 series, on the other hand, is expected to debut in January 2024 during a Galaxy Unpacked event.

According to the report, the company intends to first ship 30,000 units of the XR headset. The OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) display for the headset will reportedly be developed by Samsung Display.

Samsung revealed in February that it was working with Google and Qualcomm to create a new extended reality (XR) headset. The headset will be powered by a customized Qualcomm chipset and Google’s newest Wear OS, as per the company. Samsung has not disclosed any other information regarding its future headset.

According to a Washington Post report at the time, Samsung’s XR headset project would also feature a service partnership with Meta and Microsoft – a kind of technological alliance against Apple.
