Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Tipped to Feature Triple Rear Camera Setup

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may lack a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.

In January, Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which features a 200-megapixel quad rear camera setup. An early rumor suggests that next year’s Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will receive a significant camera upgrade.

Samsung is rumored to be testing next year’s flagship with three rear cameras rather than four. The upcoming model might not have the 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom found on the current phone. It is anticipated to keep the 200-megapixel primary sensor.

On X, tipster Sperandio4Tech (@ISAQUES81) said that Samsung is testing the Galaxy S25 Ultra with three rear cameras: a main sensor, an ultra-wide unit, and a periscope zoom setup. The smartphone manufacturer is said to have left the 10-megapixel 3x optical zoom telephoto camera from next year’s flagship.

This would be a significant hardware upgrade from its predecessors. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a quad rear camera setup, which includes a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype has been reported to include the same 200-megapixel main camera, but its ability to capture light may be improved. It is expected to have the same 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and is not prone to change during this prototyping stage.

The periscope camera is being tested with a large sensor and variable zoom. Samsung is testing the periscope camera with two fixed focal lengths: one between 4x and 5x zoom and the other between 6x and 7x zoom.

Since we are talking about a prototype, it is best to take this rumor with a pinch of salt. According to a few reports, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will get minor changes over its predecessor.
