Opera Air Browser Launched for Windows, Mac

Opera Air, the company’s first web browser designed around the concept of mindfulness, was released on Tuesday for Windows and macOS. Currently in early access, it includes features like breathing exercises, binaural beats, and encouraging quotes to improve the user’s well-being while browsing the web.

Opera says that its new mindfulness-based web browser has a minimalist Scandinavian style and a frosted glass user interface (UI) that can adjust to the background of the website displayed on the screen.

Keeping mindfulness at its core, the Opera Air browser includes a feature called Take a Break. As the name implies, it encourages users to pause between surfing sessions to recharge and exercise.

It is located in the sidebar and, when selected, directs the user to various exercises, including a few for breathing, meditation, and neck. Their duration varies depending on the workout, ranging from three minutes to 15 minutes. Alternatively, for Windows and macOS, use the keyboard commands Ctrl + K or Cmd + K.

Meanwhile, it has what Opera refers to as a Full Body Scan. According to the company, as it is a guided practice that allows them to focus on different parts of the body and “deeply connect mind and body”. Professional voice actors lead all of the mindfulness exercises, and users can choose between Alex and Emma. They can set the frequency and duration of break reminders, in addition to manually toggling them.

Another important feature of Opera Air is Boosts. It employs binaural beats, an auditory technique that plays two slightly different frequencies in each ear so that the brain perceives a third frequency, resulting in various mental states such as focus or relaxation. The binaural beats are complemented by a music track and an ambient sound, and users can change the levels and frequencies they want using sliders.

Of course, the feature requires headphones to function, after which Boosts such as Creativity Boost, Energized Focus, or Deep Relaxation can be induced. This feature has a default duration of 30 minutes, however, it can be modified from 15 minutes to an unlimited duration. It is also accessible from the sidebar of the Opera Air browser.

Finally, the company has improved the Speed Dial feature by including a Quote of the Day. Mindful quotes will be displayed at the bottom of the browser’s main screen. Opera says that quotes can be rearranged, customized, and even deactivated.
