On Monday, iOS 18 was made available to iPhone users worldwide. It comes with improvements including customizable lock and home screens, updated apps, and new Control Center settings.

Rich Communication Services (RCS) Messaging and T9 Dialling, two capabilities that have long been available on Android but are new to iOS, are also included in the update. Although the former says it will improve communications, the latter can speed up dialing numbers.

After years of pressure from Google, Apple claims it is finally launching RCS Messaging on the iPhone. RCS is a communications technology supported by the GSM Association and is frequently regarded as an alternative to conventional SMS messaging.

This feature, which is part of the Messages app, includes conversation indicators, end-to-end encryption, high-resolution media sharing, Wi-Fi message sending, and support for sharing media with those who don’t own an Apple device.

T9 Dialling has also been added to the Phone app. By typing their name on the keyboard, users can now dial any number from the address book, just like they would with a feature phone. The numbers they input can represent the initial letters of the recipient’s name.

Additionally, iOS 18 adds call recording to the iPhone. Users can also view transcripts of the recorded calls in the Notes app. With the ability to change the icons and add different color tints, Apple has allowed users to customize their home and lock screens even further. They can also move widgets and apps around on the home screen, resizing them as needed.
