According to a source, iOS 18, Apple’s next major iPhone update, may include a redesign of the handset’s Control Centre. Apple is preparing for its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, which begins on June 10.

The event is likely to feature operating system changes, including iOS 18. The iPhone maker is expected to update the Control Centre, as well as redesigned Music widget and HomeKit controls.

In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that Apple may improve the iPhone’s Control Centre. As part of the effort, it is expected to provide a new Music widget and HomeKit control improvements.

According to Gurman, “Control Center, meanwhile, will be upgraded with a new music widget and improvements to how it operates smart home appliances.” The Music widget on the iPhone’s home screen now appears as a small window with a single option to play/pause the song.

The analyst also highlighted that the Settings app might receive a cleaner interface, greater organisation, and a “much-improved search”. Further, this functionality is expected to be offered on macOS.

Gurman has stated that Siri (AI) capabilities are on the way, enabled by Large Language Models (AI). Users may be able to chain instructions and ask further queries without having to repeat the original query.

According to the reports, AI might also be implemented into apps like Music, Keynote, Pages, and possibly AppleCare. Notably, Gurman earlier stated that iOS 18, the next-generation operating system for the iPhone, might be “one of the biggest” updates in the device’s history.

While hardware upgrades were previously expected, Gurman stated that the Cupertino-based tech giant is unlikely to make any hardware-related announcements at its developer event. A new Apple TV, which was expected to debut in the first half of 2024, is unlikely to be unveiled.
