Google’s Phone App Reportedly Rolls Out Filters for Sorting Call History

According to a report, Google is implementing a new feature in its Phone app to enhance how calls are sorted on the device. The feature introduces filters to separate calls according to their category, ranging from spam to unknown callers.

Instead of having all calls listed in a single stream, users will now supposedly see calls categorized into different categories. According to reports, the function was first made available to beta testers of the Phone app, but it has since been made available to all Android users.

According to an Android Authority report, the Phone app may now categorize calls by kind, including all, missed, contacts, spam, and non-spam. This could make it easy to search for certain callers rather than scrolling through a list of unrelated callers. However, it only has a limited set of criteria and does not allow users to search for calls based on their incoming or outgoing calls.

Call filters were initially reported to be included in the 159.0.718038457-publicbeta-pixel2024 upgrade of the Phone app last month. It was only available to beta testers at the time, and there was no word on when it would be made public. However, the source indicates that it is now available to all Android users.

This functionality is the latest in a long line of innovations the Mountain View-based tech company has introduced to improve user ease and lower the volume of spam calls it receives.

This includes a Call Screen feature on Pixel smartphones, which allows the agentic function to serve as an intermediary between the caller and the receiver. It may determine the caller’s name and the reason for the call, as well as give the recipient with a transcript of the discussion to assist them in deciding whether or not to accept the call. When dealing with unknown numbers, the reverse lookup feature might help them identify the caller and filter out spam calls.
