Pakistan Train Jaffar Express Derails After Mastung Blast

Pakistan’s Jaffar Express passenger train derailed on Tuesday after a blast struck the tracks in the Dasht area of Mastung, Balochistan, overturning multiple coaches. At least three compartments were damaged, prompting an immediate response from rescue teams.

Passengers, including women and children, were pulled from the wreckage as footage circulating online showed overturned carriages following the explosion.

Rescue Efforts and Injuries

Rescue teams and ambulances rushed from Quetta to assist the injured. Local reports confirmed that one carriage overturned and two others derailed. Several passengers were taken to nearby hospitals, while security forces secured the area as railway staff assessed the damage and worked to clear the tracks.

Context: Previous Attacks on Jaffar Express

This is not the first incident involving the train. A month ago, a bomb blast in Mastung derailed six bogies of the Jaffar Express. Muhammad Kashif, public relations officer for Pakistan Railways’ Quetta division, told Dawn.com:

“A bomb attached to the railway track exploded loudly, derailing six bogies of the train. Fortunately, there was no loss of life.”

The train, carrying 350 passengers, was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar City when the blast occurred near Spezand station in Mastung’s Dasht tehsil.

Escalating Violence in the Region

Earlier on the same railway stretch, Pakistani military personnel were attacked while clearing the tracks, highlighting ongoing security concerns. Baloch fighters targeted the Jaffar Express in Mastung, allegedly seeking revenge for the abduction, rape, and killing of three Baloch girls on September 14 by Pakistani Punjabi troops.

On July 24, a powerful explosion damaged a bogie of the Bolan Mail, and a July 28 derailment of the Jaffar Express in Sindh’s Sukkur was initially attributed to an explosion, though later investigations cited a technical fault, according to Dawn.

Visuals and Ongoing Investigation

Footage from Mastung’s Dasht area shows derailed carriages and rescue operations in progress. Authorities continue to investigate the blast, secure the site, and ensure passenger safety while railway operations remain disrupted.
