Reports emerged Wednesday of multiple officers being shot in Gretna, Pittsylvania County. The situation has prompted an extensive law enforcement response.

Preliminary reports from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office indicate that the deputies were shot while responding to an assistance call. Authorities confirmed that all four deputies were taken to nearby medical facilities, but their conditions have not yet been released.

Heavy Police Presence and Helicopters on Scene

Local scanners indicate a massive police response at Hampstead Drive, with multiple helicopters deployed. Traffic alerts in the area are urging residents to avoid the scene as authorities secure the location.

Authorities and emergency crews on scene include the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Danville Police Department, Virginia State Police, Gretna Fire and Rescue, Hurt Fire Department, U.S. Marshals, and a Centra helicopter.

James Andreu Lehnerd, the suspect in the Pittsylvania County, Virginia, shooting, opened fire on deputies executing a warrant and protective order at a residence on Blue Jay Lane near Gretna. Three deputies were injured, two by shrapnel. Lehnerd has since surrendered and is in custody pending charges.
